Trends come and go but one thing that is constant is the body image issue that comes with it. In fact, it just makes it worse. According to Statistic Brain, 91% of all women are unhappy with their bodies and result to dieting and 80% of women say that the images of women in the media make them feel insecure.
I know you’ve thought about it; slimmer legs, bigger breasts, toned arms, flat abs. Sounds like a dream doesn’t it? Surprisingly, almost every woman in this world will have had body issues at one point in their lives. Yeah sure, she’ll learn to love her body the way it is but it all starts with a doubt.
Your pants might not fit right. That dress might accentuate your love handles.
Even the slimmest of girls will have body issues because of how things are portrayed in the media and by society. Flawless girls grace magazine covers and Victoria Secret Angels look like literal angels on the runway – then there’s you; holding a bag of chips on your couch.
While we’re not saying to completely neglect your health and live the sloth life forever, there are some who take things to the extreme. #TeamCLEO spoke to Psychologist Katyana Azman and she gave us the skinny on when body image may be an issue:
2 YOU CAN SEE A PHYSICAL DIFFERENCE
Drastic weight loss or gain, a fixation on “not good enough”; this behaviour being pervasive and affecting your ability to function. Losing weight takes some time; around four weeks for you to see a difference, eight weeks for your friends to see a difference and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. If it took you about a week or two to notice that your friend has lost a significant amount of weight – talk to him/her.
