Believe it or not, some of us actually love driving. Okay, sure, getting stuck in a KL jam is no fun, but cruising on a scenic road, taking in the curves on a winding trunk road, discovering small towns, and randomly stopping by the roadside every time we see snacks? LOVE!
We are into this stuff, people, coz you know what they say: “It’s not about the destination; it’s about the journey”. So the next time you think about going for a quick getaway, try this route #TeamCLEO took recently. It was a three-day, two-night trip from KL to Cameron Highlands and back via Bentong, Raub and a little place barely anyone’s heard of called Sungai Koyan.

be cool in Bentong, baby!
This town in Pahang has become quite the weekend favourite among KL-ites looking for authentic, small town kopitiam food like wantan mee, pan mee and roti raya, fresh Bentong ginger from the market and … ice cream? Yep, it seems Bentong’s ice cream is special because it’s not made in big brand factories but at the mom-and-pop ais kacang restaurants themselves, by business owners who have been operating in the town for generations.
We stopped by at one such ice cream shop called Kow Po Ice Cream House for a bowl of ABC. It was good, because it didn’t have that icky, sticky artificial taste that most ais kacang have, and the vanilla ice cream was light and not too milk-y.
ROUTE: Continue on route E8 to Bentong.
