Whenever I start getting a little over my head and carried away with juggling workload and trying to keep a social life going, I tend to cherish the time I have in the comfort of my bed more than usual. Without even noticing, amidst chaos I will take a moment to look around and find evidence of what my mind looks in reflection to the mess around me physically.
Waking up and dozing off in a comfortable & clean space always sets me on a positive note. Never underestimate the power of de-cluttering and the power it holds to sustain the feel-good vibes you need to keep sane! With that in mind, here are 5 tips you can implement in your life when designing or cleaning up your sacred chamber:
1. Declutter, you hoarder!
If there are way too many things collecting dust in your room and it doesn’t have any sentimental value to it then dump it in the trash! In contrary, sentimental goods can still be kept, pop them in a box and store them somewhere out of your way. Visual clutter can only increase stress, anxiety and depression.
2. Chic bed sheets
This is based on your eye for design, but obviously your bed is the focal point of your bedroom. Why not take the effort to put on bed sheets that are visually pleasing, especially if it’s colourful and comfy — you’ll definitely look forward to your good night’s rest at the end of every day.
Clean sheets are always the best to sleep in, get into the habit of having a few sheets in rotation when you’re doing laundry. It’s advisable to change it up every 2 weeks or so!
3. Keep your sense of smell happy
Quite a few of my friends and family members have trouble sleeping, I’m sure a lot of people out there do too. I used to have bad insomnia as well when I was studying. It would always leave me feeling restless and nowhere close to being able to concentrate, until I was introduced about a pillow spray which is basically a distillation of essential oils that aids relaxation that will have you snoozing in minutes!
4. Green touch for zen
Plants or fresh flowers, it’s all up to your preference. Plants clean out the air in your room, and green is known to be a calming colour to look at when you’re stressed or happen to be experiencing eye strain from staring into your gadget for too long. Remember to water your plants daily if you’re planning to add a few, I have a air plants by my window just because they’re not super high maintenance. I just spritz water on them a few times a week!
5. Don’t be lazy, make your bed daily!
Seriously, you only need to spare a few minutes of your time to make your bed! Even if you’re in a rush, you can still manage. Coming home dead tired from work to a messy bed won’t help you feel better. People who make their beds every morning tend to be more productive and happier!
