There are anti-V Day parties a la Valentine’s Day and there are ex-boyfriend bonfires a la Friends, but what about us single girls who actually revel in being single on this so-called holiday? Yes, us, the fabulous ones who are too busy having fun and focusing on a relationship with ourselves. We can definitely celebrate this day dedicated to love too, and here are some great ideas how.
Go on a date with a selfie stick
We can never have too many photos of ourselves! Get dressed up and head to an Instagram-worthy place to take your next profile pic and a bunch more to scroll through and edit all night long. Drag your BFF along for a full-on #OOTD photoshoot or level up by hiring a professional photographer! You can do elaborate set-ups for photos that you will cherish for years to come. After all, it’s all about self-love.
Visit the less fortunate
Turn Valentine’s Day into Volunteer Day to give some love to the less fortunate. Arrange to visit an orphanage, soup kitchen or old folks’ home to spend some time playing and talking with them; this small gesture can truly light up someone’s day. You can also spread the love with some much needed necessities such as dry food or bedding. If you’re an animal lover, the dogs and cats at the local shelter could use some cuddles and walks too!
Fall in love… with something new
Is there something you’ve always wanted to try but never had the time slash motivation slash reason to? Well, drop those excuses and take up the challenge today! Attend that calligraphy writing class, hop into a yoga routine or start jotting down ideas for that awesome business. Don’t think, just go, go, go!
Do a good deed for a couple in need
Offer to babysit your nephews, nieces or couple friends’ children for a couple hours while they go out for a much-deserved meal or movie this V-Day. It will be a much appreciated gesture, and as a bonus, you can tell the kids horror stories about life before Facebook.
Gather the #girlsquad
Celebrate the day with your BFFs, the true loves of your life. You can run a Secret Valentine game, where you randomly draw each others’ names and buy a little something for your “Valentine”. Open up the presents as you wine and dine yourselves, and make everyone guess who their gift is from. It’ll be a load of fun and laughter! Then, round up the night by hitting the dance clubs, or go for a karaoke or bowling sesh!
Spread some random love
Buy single stalks of flowers (they don’t have to be roses!), some chocolates or any little gifts and randomly give them to single strangers you encounter with an uplifting note. Besides feeling like the Valentine Santa, you’ll also never know whose spirits you’ll lift and encourage on this stressful day.
The most important person in any relationship is yourself, so make this a special day for you. Don’t worry about anyone or anything else, just focus on what you want to do, be it pampering yourself with a mani-pedi, binge-watching chick flicks or having some spiritual growth time. You’ll feel more in tune with yourself after the day is done, and rejuvenated enough to take on the world!
Get in touch with someone you miss
There’s always that someone, whether an old friend, ex-colleague or family member, that you’ve lost touch with but think about occasionally. Why not reach out to that person this Valentine’s Day? It doesn’t have to be a long-winded call to catch up; a simple WhatsApp message or Facebook tag can open the door to get a good ol’ times conversation going.
