#CLEOCHATS TO R&B ARTISTE SAM RUI on her newly RELEASESd DEBUT ALBUM
Singapore’s latest R&B sensation Sam Rui has launched her debut album, Season 2. I first heard of Sam Rui when I scoured the lineup for St Jerome’s Laneway Singapore 2017 and this talent will for sure be on everyone’s playlist soon enough.
I spoke to the R&B sensation and got to know her a little better as she tells us about the inspiration for her album ‘Season 2’ and what does being empowered mean to her.
Tell us how it is that you got into making music?
My parents are both musically inclined. They both sang in the church choir, my mom plays the piano and my dad has a pretty cool record collection. Oh, and my dad used to DJ for his college radio station. There are home videos of me singing disney songs around the house soon after i started learning how to talk. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 7 and in my teens I taught myself how to play the guitar and started writing my own songs.
It’s alway been a part of my life. I just never decided to pursue it full on because I always saw it as something I could or should only be doing as a hobby. Then last year I decided I should at least try to invest everything I could into it before I wrote it off entirely and pursue a safer or expected sort of career path. I’ve been lucky enough that’s it’s gotten to where it is now.
