Make-up created and styled by Peter Philips for the 2018 Cruise Collection runway show Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Make-up, drew inspiration from the rich colours of the Californian desert to create a make-up look that is both streamlined and sunny.
“I wanted to use the warm, organic, and earthy tones of the desert, just like in Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings. I wanted a natural but slightly unpolished “warm glow” effect, the way you look after physical activity. I used earthy and orangey colours so the girls looked like they had spent an afternoon in the sun and the wind.” – Peter Philips
The complexion was achieved using subtle, pictorial texture effects. As Peter Philips describes it, “I first prepped the skin using Diorskin Forever & Ever Wear Primer, and then evened out the complexion with Diorskin Forever Fluid Foundation and Compact, as well as new Diorskin Forever Undercover Concealer. I wanted to create a luminous, very sun-kissed look that extends from the top of the cheekbones down towards the neck. To get this soft, warm tone, I used Rouge Dior Lipstick in Ready n°642 as blush, because its slightly earthy brick shade evokes the colours of the desert.
The shows are like a laboratory, and playing with the products like this is typical of what happens backstage, where you take liberties to create specific effects. To finish, a touch of Flash Luminizer Radiance Booster Pen n°002 was applied to areas that catch the light and the look is finished with a light veil of Diorskin Nude Air Loose Powder.”
