Vernon David Apostol, 27, National Dodgeball Athlete
A national dodgeball athlete and one of the founders of the Malaysia Dodgeball Federation, Vernon is determined to spread the word about the sport to the youth and adults within the country. Although he’s an adrenaline rush junkie, the journey means the most to him – regardless of victory or defeat.
What do you enjoy most about the sport?
The adrenaline rush; the bond we have amongst teammates; the feeling of representing your country; the pride and glory of every victory or defeat. Plus, who doesn’t like throwing a dodgeball and having to dodge to avoid getting hit in the face?
How is the sport growing in Malaysia?
I’m also one of the founders of the Malaysia Dodgeball Federation where I am also coaching and doing my best to spread the awesome sport of dodgeball to young kids and adults in Malaysia.
I’ve learned that it is not always about winning, yes it is always great to win but it is also about the fun, the joy, the memories and the family that you create along the way. Having great people around me is what made me the person I am today. That is something I would not trade with anything else.

If you could join any sports team, what would it be?
The New Zealand All Blacks team. It would be cool to be part of them because the pride and strength of the team is amazing. And, of course their war cry before their game is awesome!
Who in your family are you closest to?
As a family, we’re pretty a tight knit. My parents are in Sabah and my brother is in the UK while I am here based in Kuala Lumpur, but we share everything on a day-to-day basis.
Where do you want to travel solo?
There are so many places on my list but I’m sticking to seeing the Northern Lights. I would like to just stand there, take a deep breath and just take in my surroundings.
