Ask anyone about their first beauty memory and often, it concerns a significant woman in the family be it mothers, grandmothers or aunts. “Growing up in a sunny beachside town in Australia in the 70s, my mum would sunbathe and tan to a crisp. It’ll make you freak when you think about it today. After getting so much sun damage the doctors told her to stay away from UVs forever (really), she always told me to cover up or shield my face or wear SPF ALWAYS. Of course I now know that sunscreen is the legit way to prevent sun damage and premature ageing, I’m still not that steadfast in applying SPF on my face. I rely on multi-tasking products to help me with that. And when I tan, I do still go into the sun with minimal coverage (sorry mum I’m just TOO PALE). I do cover the face though; the thought of irreversible damage makes me shiver. It’s also the secret to how the Koreans and Japanese have luminous skin even into their 50s, 60s. I also want to keep people stumped about my age…”
