When he’s not wearing the hat of an Art Director at Leo Burnett and creating commercials or campaigns for Samsung, Uber and others, Hyrul Anuar focuses his time on his passion projects as a filmmaker, animator and artist. His recent exhibition, Menjemur Sementara Hari Masih Panas, showcased some of our favourite Malay proverbs in a visual series.
When did you begin to grow a passion for art?
I never thought of my illustrations as art because I’m not good as super realistic drawings or portraits, and that was the idea I was exposed to growing up. However, when I worked in Italy five years ago, I met so many artists with different styles that weren’t necessarily realistic and they were truly eye opening.
