Get The Look: Rita Ora At The 2018 MTV VMAs

Since its inception in 1984, the VMAs Red Carpet have been famous for creative, albeit outlandish, looks. Unlike the Oscars and Grammys where the vibe is generally glamorous and chic, the VMAs is truly where the party’s at—in every sense of the word. Celebs show up in a riot of styles and nothing is off limits. From Sofia Coppola’s sheer purple slip + tank top + black undies combo at the 1995 VMAs and Lil’ Kim’s boob-baring metallic purple getup to Lady Gaga’s meat dress and Jared Leto’s sequinned Gucci cape, it’s obvious that the VMAs is all about pushing the boundaries of fashion.

While there were some standout outfits this year, I found the beauty looks a tad disappointing. I’m never one to dismiss a classic red pout (you’re a beauty, Camila Cabello) or a perfect cat-eye (I see you, Ariana and Madison) but for the VMAs, celebs can afford to go further with creative, directional looks. Singer King Princess (if unfamiliar, she’s one to watch) and actress Amandla Stenberg nearly went there with colourful eyes but Rita Ora’s lace-embellished look won big for me.

Make-up artist Kathy Jeung and Rita matched the makeup to the motif of her Jean Paul Gaultier dress. Instead of going down the festival-route, Kathy paired the black sticker motif with glowing skin contoured to the heavens, taupe eyeshadow to enhance Rita’s hazel peepers and wet, wavy locks courtesy of hairstylist Brent Lawler. Trust Rita to make face stickers super sexy!

Kathy used a majority of products by Pat McGrath and eye stickers by Face Lace (you can find the exact full list of products used here) but you can recreate the look with the products below too. JPG gown optional!
