Sending physical birthday cards may be a thing of the past with Facebook wishes and WhatsApp greetings these days, but it’s still nice to receive one in the mail sometimes. Well, two ingenious guys have been exchanging birthday cards for 47 years without fail. The difference? Bill and Steve have been sending each other the one same card back and forth. Talk about saving money (and the trees!). In fact, the card was purchased back in 1970 for a measly 25 cents, but exchanged 94 times.
It’s now shared with over 1.8 million people worldwide, who have viewed it on Reddit since it was uploaded by LincolnsLostSpeech with the caption: “So over the past 47 years my fiancee’s uncle and his cousin have been passing the same card back and forth.” Their names can be seen cancelled out multiple times around the wordings, ‘Save this card. You can send it to ME on my birthday’.
LincolnsLostSpeech later followed up with a photo of the back of the card, which looks like it has been taped to keep from falling apart.
A year ago, a similar story surfaced on Reddit about brothers Jeff and Ron who have exchanged the same birthday card since 1973.
The appropriate Peanuts card states ‘This is the Age of Ecology’ in the front, and ‘Don’t throw this card away, recycle it to a friend’ on the inside. Rather than a fleeting Facebook wish, isn’t this much more meaningful? We think so!
