Malaysian R&B star Yuna Zarai has done nothing but inspire us to reach for the stars as she blooms as an artist year after year.
Alongside familiar names like Mary J. Blige, Kehlani, Solange, Fantasia Taylor and Syd — Yuna has been nominated for the Centric Award for 2017’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award. It’s a ceremony that celebrates achievements of black entertainment in music, sports, television and movies. This year the BET will be hosted by Nicole Beharie and Fetty Wap.
The track ‘Crush’ feat. Usher made her the first Malaysian artist to the list is definitely one of the most groundbreaking songs of all time. Previous year of 2016, the award was brought home by the queen herself, Beyoncé for her song Formation from the album Lemonade.
The Centric award was formerly awarded to neo soul and/or traditional R&B artists. Since 2013, it been recognising specific songs instead. Nominees of the award has been selected for Mary J. Blige’s ‘Thick Of It’, Kehlani’s ‘Distraction’, Solange’s ‘Cranes In The Sky’, Fantasia Taylor’s ‘Sleeping With The One I Love’ and Syd’s ‘All About Me’.
