Living in a country like Malaysia means you’re exposed to a whole bunch of different cultures. And that also means we are equally as exposed to an array of beauty products. The Korean beauty industry is ready for world domination and people are going nuts for it.
And that’s because some of them are ADORBS:
But also because most of them are awesome:
Perhaps this all boils down to cultural differences. As Asians, we have been socialised into thinking that ‘fairer skin is more beautiful’ as it denotes a time in history where commoners used to work in the fields and thereby having fairer skin alluded to being of a higher social standing.
The thing is, I’ve only ever followed American beauty trends which consist of contouring and heavily penciled eyebrows but that’s only because the Asian dedicated products don’t suit my skin. Simply because I’m a darker Asian with warmer undertones AND I’ve got very sensitive skin. Although, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t ever tempted to check out the new Korean make up products that have been popping up.
Korean beauty aims to having a fair, minimalist and dewy look whereas American beauty trends are more about smokey eyes, contoured and highlighted faces.
Let this be evident through the difference between when you browse through Sephora’s bestsellers list with bronzers and highlighters on the list. But browse through an online Korean beauty store, W2Beauty, where the bestsellers boasts BB cushions & CC creams.
At the end of the day, it’s all up to subjective opinion and it’s about personal preference! After all, both beauty trends are insanely popular. Which is your favourite?
