Scott Rais, 24, Pilot
Tell us a little bit more about what you do.
I fly planes for a living. My teacher used to jokingly say that I wouldn’t be able to get a job by staring out the window, well look at me now CIKGU! Haha!
What made you pursue the aviation industry?
When I was younger and on a flight to Scotland with my family, a cabin crew asked if I wanted to check out the flight deck. I knew it was what I wanted to do after that short glimpse into the cockpit.
Which is your favourite airport?
Hong Kong because I love how efficient they are at handling air traffic! It’s also facing the ocean so you get a pretty nice view on the approach.
If you could create something and have it be your legacy, what would it be?
I’d love to design my own airplane. I’ve always been interested in the aerodynamics and the small details that go into making an aircraft. Plus who wouldn’t want their name on an airplane?
Who is your favourite comedian?
Jim Carrey, I think I’m a lot like him because we’re both very animated and silly characters.
What’s your favourite book?
Definitely The Hobbit. My mum passed the book down to me when I was younger and she’s had it with her since she was in high school. It’s a very special book to me.
What are the aviation-based pick up lines that you’ve used?
“Wanna go full-throttle baby?”
Do you have any secret talents?
Is cooking a secret talent? Cause I can make a mean Thai green curry.
What one stereotype would you like to get rid of? Why?
That young or new pilots start off only flying domestic routes. We fly international too!
