It’s an important time for women reaching milestones like never before, and being recognised for our success. In relation to recent ground-breaking events like Malaysia’s first-ever appointed female Deputy Prime Minister and Sabah’s first ethnic-Chinese female Deputy Chief Minister, 19 year old Janushaa Bala Krishnan Muthiah joins in as the country’s first female student to be accepted as a member of the U.S. Naval Academy’s (USNA) class of 2022 at Annapolis, Maryland.
The young and ambitious Janushaa is an alumni of SK Clifford and also a graduate from Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM). Across 157 countries, only 15 applicants from foreign students are handpicked to attend one of the leading prestigious United States Service Academies.
Following up to the amazing news, both the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia and SK Clifford honour Cadet Janushaa with a ceremony was held on May 16th 2018 at the school in Kuala Lipis, Pahang. The U.S. ambassador, Kamal Shirin Lakhdir presented her with the official appointment along with other representatives from the Ministry of Defense.
According to Raaga, Janusha credited her loved ones for encouragement and making the dream a reality. She said: “I hope one day I’ll be a professional pilot, to prove that gender is not a barrier to achieve our dream. I also hope to be a successful catalyst,” and we wish her the best of luck on her journey to make Malaysians proud!
