Meet The Youngest Congress Nominee Who Beat A Veteran Democrat

The political establishments were shook when Ocasio-Cortez beat an incumbent who has had years of experience under his belt having served the Congress for 19 years. Yes, that’s right a woman has done it again.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has won the Democratic primary in New York’s Congressional District. But not only did she run for office but has proven to everyone who has ever doubt her.

In a campaign ad, Ocasio-Cortez said:

Women like me aren’t supposed to run for office.

According to, the millennial candidate won with 57.5% of the votes. Her opponent, Joe Crowly had not faced a challenger from his own party in 14 years in the mostly ethnic minority district, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens.

She was a watiress

Born to a Puerto Rican mother and a Bronx-born father, Ocasio-Cortez lived a working-class life with her family. Tragedy struck when cancer had taken her father and recession hit them hard. Ocasio-Cortez had to take on a job as a waitress in a tacos and tequila bar in Manhattan to support her mother.

From serving drinks to now possibly serving her country, Ocasio-Cortez is truly an inspiring figure.
