Born and bred in Katy, Texas, 25-year-old Megan Nicole is the singer-songwriter-actress to be reckoned with.
From singing and posting covers on Youtube to now having a mini album and a movie under her belt, who exactly is Megan Nicole? She uploaded her first cover of “Use Somebody” by Kings Of Leon, Nicole then went on to do more covers by Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Lorde and many more.
This Youtube sensation has a following of 4.1 million subscribers and 855 million views on her Youtube videos. Megan Nicole was originally signed with Sean Diddy Comb’s Bad Boy Records/Interscope but is now an independent producer.
Nicole’s latest mini labum, “My Kind Of Party” is infused with retro sounds as well as a ’90s R&B beat. Adding to her already impressive repertoire, she also launched a clothing line collab with designer Julie Mollo called “Confetti Heart“.
Is there anything this girl can’t do?
What inspired you to start a YouTube channel, and how did your family and friends react to it?
My dad is the person who encouraged me to post my first video to YouTube. It wasn’t something I talked about too often, I thought of it like my own little ‘Hannah Montana’ life. I remember the first time a video I was in went “viral” and getting messages from friends and family saying they we’re seeing my video everywhere. That was a cool moment.
Some of your video hits have reached in the millions, congrats! We were wondering if you could tell us how it feels to have amassed such a following and amount of views.
Thank you! It’s still crazy to think that so many people have watched my videos and listened to my music. It is still surreal at moments and honestly I’m very thankful to have had videos that connected with so many people. Especially my original songs.
We’ve read that your biggest music icon is Stevie Wonder. Can you share with us how he’s influenced you throughout the years?
He followed me on Twitter today! I like to think I’m one step closer to collaborating with him. Here’s to dreaming big. He has so many melodies that stick with you and music that makes you feel good and want to dance. There is something so timeless about the songs he’s created that even listening to them as a kid in the late 90’s to early 2000’s I was drawn to it. I hope my music will be able to connect with people in the same way.
One of the biggest challenges I still face is having my music heard. I feel like there are so many people creating and releasing music more now than ever, which is awesome, but you always have to make sure you are still heard. One of the biggest rewards is having a young person tell me that they were inspired by my journey and that they want to pursue music too. That’s still a really special thing.

You’ve recently participated in the “Dream Still Lives” campaign; tell us more about what this campaign means to you and how does it feel to be a part of such meaningful act with other big names?
I was beside myself when I saw the list of people that were in this amazing campaign. It’s such a huge list of influential people to have my name next to and I was honored to be a part of it. Actively chasing a dream and wanting to see a better world is something I’m passionate about. When I was asked what my dream was, self worth was something that came to mind. I think it’s so important for people to know that they are valued and have a purpose for their lives. With social media being such a huge part of our every day, I think this is something that we can lose sight of as we look at everyone else’s lives.
Who would be the one person or band you’d love to collab with?
Stevie Wonder is someone I mention a lot, but another artist I’d like to work with is Charlie Puth.
6Do you have any secrets (apart from music) to being happy? Or any rituals you follow before kick-starting your day?
I really love making a list the night before of what I want to accomplish. I don’t always check everything off, but it feels good to be productive. My ideal mornings start with a little devotional and then a work out and a smoothie. Spending time with family and my dogs always makes me feel good, but also remembering that happiness is a choice. So I try to keep that in mind when I need an attitude check.
With all the fame that you’re getting from your music, what’s your secret to keeping grounded?
I always keep in mind what a blessing it is to do something I love and that it’s something that won’t last forever so I should enjoy the journey.
Why did you decide to call your new mini album My Kind of Party?
It was the title of one of the songs, but also I like to think of each mini album as a look into my world. It’s a representation of me and my journey and the name “My Kind of Party” reflects the fun natured songs on this EP.
Congratulations on your movie Summer Forever by the way! Tell us, how did it feel to jump into the film industry in the midst of being in the music one?
In a way acting and singing go hand in hand, but also they are totally different worlds. I’ve already learned so much from being on a few sets, and want to continue to push myself as an actor. There’s something so fun about telling someone else’s story through a character.
I’ve been doing this since I was 15 so it’s hard to imagine myself doing anything else. In another life it would be awesome to be an interior designer.
– On what Megan would be doing if she wasn’t singing.
Is there anything else in the pipeline that you can share with us and your fans?
My goal for this year is to release the most original music I have in a year. So be on the lookout for more music from me!
Any advice for the budding artists who are looking to make it?
Let the passion for what you do fuel you. Take the ups and downs and use those moments to inspire what you create. Practice and work hard at your craft and don’t be afraid to take risks.
