The Kate Spade New York Fall 2017 campaign story line goes: Fernanda Ly returns from Paris and stops by a classic New York diner and orders steak frites (obviously still not over her Parisian trip) with her vintage finds in tow. French music starts to play in the background and the pink-haired model taps her feet along to the melody. She gets up and dances to the music and soon, fellow diners follow suit–turning an everyday occurance into a moment of joy.
The Fall 2017 collection is inspired by 1920’s Paris. It was a time when strong, interesting women were encouraged to shine and heroines defied expectations. Inspiration was drawn from three rule breakers, in particular: Louise Brooks, a quintessential flapper; a mysterious and bold local beauty painted by Kees Van Dongen; and Josephine Baker, an American who followed her dreams to Paris and became a global jazz age icon.
