New York. Even the name itself is laden with so much. There are so many songs written about it and countless movies revolving around it, almost as if it’s the centre of the earth. And when you’re there, you feel excitement in the air — it’s the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
On a recent trip to the Big Apple, #TeamCLEO was put up in these two choice hotels. If you are in this part of the world, do pop by and take a peek!
Hotel #2: The Jane Hotel
Inspired by a luxury ship and train cabins, The Jane Hotel is an affordable haven for young travellers with more dash than cash.
Built in 1908 as a home for sailors, used in 1912 as a shelter for survivors of the Titanic and restored in 2008, The Jane Hotel is just blocks from Sarah Jessica Parker’s porch in the West Village. (OMG!) Overlooking the Hudson river, this ultra-trendy budget hotel is also within walking distance from the city’s hippest boutiques, bars and restaurants. Venture a little further and you’ll be at the Meatpacking District, Chelsea, SoHo and Union Square.
Balancing efficiency with the lived-in character of a hostel, the Standard Cabins are small, but is sufficient for a good night’s sleep if you are travelling solo.
Communal bathrooms are situated at the end of the hallways, but unlike college dorm bathrooms, these communal affairs are decked out in marble and subway tiles, and are always squeaky-clean.
Ensuite or not, this place offers one of the best deals in the city.
What it lacks in space, it makes up for in character and amenities. Don’t expect a state-of-the-art gym but you can count on getting the most attentive service from their friendly staff.
Checking into a room here also means auto-access into one of the hottest clubs in New York City. (How cool is that?)
Plus, The Jane Ballroom — with its fireplace, mismatched couches, potted palm trees and stuffed animal heads — is a nighttime favourite among the locals. So if you like to dance your weekend away on velvet settees, this is definitely the place to be.
The hotel also provides complimentary bikes for its guests, too. And what better way to experience NYC if not by cycling through it?
