These 7 Very Real Reactions To The Christchurch Tragedy Will Touch Your Heart

Sad, tragic news gripped the city of Christchurch, New Zealand last Friday, when a terrorist attack occurred on a Muslim community during Friday prayers.

At least 49 Muslim worshippers were killed and 40 more wounded on Friday when a gunman attacked two mosques in the southern city. Brenton Tarrant, an Australian-born 28-year-old man, was charged on Saturday with murder over the gun assaults. It was the worst ever mass shootings in New Zealand’s recent history.

And considering the tiny, tightknit population of New Zealand and the even tinier Muslim community, the country and people globally felt the repercussions of this cowardly act.

With news that the gunman livestreamed his video during the attack, there followed a flurry of anger, sadness, disgust, frustration circulating the Internet. We were told not to share the video so as not to incite hate, anger, or spread the hate and anger that the perpetrator so intended.

A warning locally not to spread the video so as to keep the peace.

While there is sometimes little sense that can come out of a cowardly terrorist act such as this, there has been some solace in the reactions of people who are equally as shocked — and retaliate with love, not hate.

These people have shown that there has been some humanity in all of this, and even a matter like religion doesn’t have to divide us.

When this image was shared it was clear that the world did not feel anywhere close to what a white supremacist felt — in fact, it just showed that everyone is tolerant, understands what the Muslim world is going through, and that humanity is at the heart of everything. And in being human, it’s about looking out for each other.

It turned out that this man is an Andrew Graystone, where his tweets have also been retweeted across the world.
