Pinaree Sanpitak’s Installation – Breast Stupa Topiary (2013)
Southeast Asia’s beloved and most respected Thai artist Pinaree Sanpitak embraces her female form by creating eight freestanding objects which are designed to support and shape the growth of plants.
In her early anatomical painting and charcoal drawing days, as nursing her son she became conscious of how the breast upheld life itself, and in her later practice, Sanpitak has looked beyond the mother and child connection to the breast as a metaphor for womanhood and self.
