As part of my 2016 New Years Resolutions, I told myself I would travel more. Back in March I hopped at the opportunity of a mini Eurotrip that consisted of Vienna, Budapest and Reykjavik. Lucky for me, I had friends for the different trips that wanted to tag along. Budapest was the last leg of my mini Eurotrip and I vowed I would go back sometime soon.
Having gotten off a train from Vienna (a city I instantly fell in love with), I was so sure that Budapest wasn’t going to leave a mark like Vienna did.
Our time was short but we managed to squeeze in the must-see touristy spots during the 2 days we were there!
The evening we arrived, we headed straight out for a night out on the town. Budapest was like a dream with the way the night life captured me; the beautiful streets, unique bars and clubs in ruins. I felt like I was transported back to a different era.
I recommend heading over to Szimpla ‘pub’ – I wouldn’t call it a pub as it’s absolutely ginormous but it’s a must do. Why? Because it’s amongst RUINS. I have to admit, it’s incredibly packed but that’s when you know it’s worth it!
(Szimpla Pub, Budapest.)
If you’re more a clubby person, Hellobaby is an incredible option to try out. It’s set right in the heart of a busy district but as soon as you step inside, it’s a whole different story. It’s a huge ruined building which, I believe, must have been a great big manor. With high ceilings, a converted ballroom to the dance floor (what’s the difference, right?), to huge concrete bannisters and stairwells — I really did feel like I was transported back in time (expect for the techno music.)
