You’ve probably heard about the egg post, which has surpassed the number of Instagram likes record that Kylie Jenner previously held – and it seems like the people have ‘cracked’ (geddit?) the case on whose idea it was to create this ultimately successful Instagram campaign.
“An egg has no gender, race or religion. An egg is an egg, it’s universal.” Thus spoke the man behind the Instagram egg fascination — 29-year-old advertiser, Chris Godfrey when asked about the reason he chose this particular object for his Instagram challenge.
ICYMI, the whole idea of the egg thing is actually a commercial. The ad was broadcasted on a streaming service, Hulu to get aired during the Super Bowl last Sunday.
The 30-second video shows the egg (which goes by the name Eugene) cracking under the pressure of social media fame. It reads: “Hi, I’m the world record egg. (You may have heard of me) Recently I’ve started to crack. If you’re struggling too, talk to someone.”
In regards of Godfrey’s intention of doing this, he said that he wants to put the egg’s fame to positive use, and says mental health is just one of the important issues ‘Eugene’ will highlight. He did admit the success had been a “fluke”. “But it’s a fluke that caught the world’s attention. It’s what you do with that attention that counts.”
All hail Eugene the humble egg!
