Everything You Need To Know About Erdem For Nars
As this Beauty Writer sifted through new launches (some via email, mostly via Insta sneak-peeks because #millennial), one managed to incite pure excitement and intrigue. Backstage at his A/W 2018 show in London, Canadian-born designer Erdem Moralioglu revealed his Erdem for Nars Strange Flowers Collection. A most logical pairing given Nars’ CV of previous collaborators which include Steven klein, Sarah Moon and Man Ray; icons in the realm of fashion, art and photography.
Flowers are a constant muse to Erdem’s collections and naturally, that translated into this limited edition makeup line. Forget clichéd summery florals though, Erdem’s take is hauntingly beautiful with painted wildflowers gracing the powder blue packaging. What’s inside is just as stunning. The two eyeshadow palettes featured wearable, versatile shades anchored by a pop of colour and who can resist the lipsticks with names like Moon Orchid and Carnal Flower? The one product that gets our hearts racing is the Poison Rose Lip Powder Palette. Yes, lip powders; a well-kept industry secret to achieving super pigmented, velvety pouts on camera. It’s only May, but we’re ready to call this 2018’s best beauty collab yet. Erdem gives #TeamCLEO an insight on his inspirations, his relationship with flowers and what makes the Erdem woman.
What was your inspiration for the collection?
I was thinking about this idea of a strange flower and I wanted to create a range of makeup that had an ethereal and slightly surreal beauty to it. There’s an amazing photograph of Molly Ringwald taken by Sheila Metzner for Vanity Fair in 1984 where she’s surrounded by exotic flowers which was a starting point for the inspiration.
