Another woman has taken her place as the Governer of Bank Negara Malaysia.

Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus has just been announced by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad as the new Governer of Bank Negara Malaysia following the retirement of Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim. According to Star, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had been waiting for Yang di-Pertuan Agong's approval before making the announcement.

Since her retirement from BNM back in 2016, Nor Shamsiah has made sure to keep herself in the game by being involved in a monetary body.

Worked in Bank Negara Malaysia for 29 years

Nor Shamsiah has extensive experience in the development of prudential regulation, legislation, policies and guidelines for the financial sector. From 1987, she rose up the ranks of officer-in-charge of supervising the banking sector to assistant governor in December 2004. Following the retirement of Datuk Zamani Abdul Ghani, Nor Shamsiah was appointed deputy governer of BNM in 2010. She served that post for 6 years before retiring on 15th November 2016.

According to MySinChew, Nor Shamsiah, who is a member of BNM’s Monetary Policy Committee, is also a member of the investment panel of the Employees Provident Fund.
