CLEO Hot Shots 2016: Meet Jewel Ling
Jewel Ling, 25, Photographer
For Jewel, photography is more than a mere platform for creative expression; it’s been her companion ever since she was gifted with her first camera at the age of 18. A day has not gone by when she does not pick it up. This go-getter isn’t afraid of pursuing (and getting) what she wants – even if it means ruffling a few feathers along the way.
Why did you choose photography?
I guess you could say photography chose me. And you know what they say, do what you love and you never have to work a day in your life.
What are you working on right now?
I’m working on providing an exclusive educational platform at my studio Profited, for New Age and influential photographers to conduct workshops. I’m also conducting personal photography seminars for local universities.
Film or digital?
Digital. I admire film, but at the same time I am in awe of the technology brought to the photography world.
Share with us your favourite inspirational quote.
“Don’t let yourself stand in your own way” – Unknown.
If you weren’t a photographer, what else could you see yourself doing?
I would probably be following the footsteps of Eldad Hagar in rescuing animals. I’ve rescued and adopted four cats myself and if I have to end this interview with a PSA, it would be “Adopt, don’t shop!”
