Here’s What Happened At The CLEO Hot Shots 2019 Mini Retreat

The Hot Shots, readers, participants and hosts, barefaced and refreshed right after the retreat

“When women are empowered, they do great things for society as a whole.” – a quote that resonates with CLEO’s vision and efforts in lifting women up and providing them the recognition they need. For the fourth consecutive year, the CLEO Hot Shots project (hosted by Editor Lina Esa) brings together fearless, inspiring females who are making a change.

“It was so easy to find so many women who are doing such amazing work,” said Lina as she described how the project all started and that her aim through was to continue uniting the numerous women who are making a change.

The CLEO Hot Shots event this year saw something different – we had our very first Hot Shots one-day urban mini retreat on 17 August at Lightbox and worked with Malaysia’s all-women retreat provider Supparetreat. At this event, we reunited the Hot Shots of 2019 and alumni along with supportive readers.

This mini retreat was led by three moving women from Supparetreat: Founder Sarah Lian who was also our host for the day and along with coaches Rachael Kwacz and Hannah Lo who guided us through a day of self-discovery and healing.

Let’s look back at some of the most memorable moments from this immersive event.

Celebrating Our Sameness and Learning About Each Other

Staying grounded and drawing energy through some breathing work

After a brief welcome note from Lina and Sarah, everyone was welcomed to the space and the day started with breathing and grounding ourselves. With guidance from Hannah and Rachael, participants were asked to take deep breaths with their eyes closed, to draw in their energy, be present and stay focused for the activities to come.

After settling in, a Love Shower was carried out in circle to celebrate our sameness as participants would step into the middle of the circle as a ‘yes’ to questions asked by the coaches such as “Who thought they would be late today?”, “Who wanted to speak to someone but didn’t have anyone to talk to?” and “Who is afraid that they will be judged by others today?”

The session continued with a sharing session as everyone is asked to walk around the room, find a partner and get to know each other in terms of what they think they need to be, what they’re feeling and what they actually need.
