Meet Our CLEO Hot Shot 2017: Hannan Azlan
HANNAN AZLAN, 22, COMEDIAN, ACTOR, SINGER AND WRITER
“Humour has soft power. It starts conversations about topics that are difficult to talk about and finding a way to laugh about it can be very therapeutic. It’s also a nice reminder that we’re not alone.”
How did you get into stand-up?
By accident, or maybe not. My parents also brought me to art galleries, dance performances and plays. As a child, I was enrolled (or forced, to be exact) into piano, violin and dance lessons. I took my first acting class as a teenager and this led to intensive training, auditions and ultimately, shows. It’s at these shows that I can sing and compose my own materials and when I met comedian Harresh A.U. (who became one of my best friends), he convinced to try stand-up.
One year later, I was the youngest person to win the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition and have been performing full-time since. This December, I will debut an original “musical” at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre.
