Clare Waight Keller Has Left Givenchy — We Take A Look At Some Of Her Most Unforgettable Designs

In this episode of fashion musical chairs (it’s also been awhile since we last heard of it), Clare Waight Keller has left Givenchy after being its Artistic Director for three years — marking the end of her initial contract with the brand.

Clare’s three-year stint at Givenchy has been eventful, being the first woman to helm the house since it was founded in 1952. She has brought Givenchy’s haute couture collection back on the runway, designed Meghan Markle’s iconic wedding dress (she proceeded to wear Givenchy for her royal events), named Ariana Grande as the brand ambassador and gave the luxury label a new identity of clean, sleek masculine-feminine runway looks — moving on from the post-Riccardo Tisci era, who was the OG of making streetwear into high street fashion. Remember those Bambi and Rottweiler oversized T-shirts back in 2013-2014?

In the official statement released by Givenchy, Clare bid adieu to her collaboration with the French brand:

“As the first woman to be the Artistic Director of this legendary Maison, I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to cherish its legacy and bring it new life.

Focusing on a world based on Haute Couture has been one of the highlights of my professional journey. I have shared so many incredible moments with the brilliant Givenchy ateliersand design teams: your exceptional talent and dedication will forever remain in my memories.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to each of the unsung heroes and heroines behind the scenes, for their contribution from product to communications and retail, and every global team member, partner and supplier in between.

Without all of you, I could not have brought my vision for Givenchy to life in such a beautiful way.”

The British fashion designer’s last collection for Givenchy would be the brand’s upcoming Fall 2020 collection that was first revealed during Paris Fashion Week back in March. This has to be the highlight of Clare’s career and a milestone for the brand. One of the major questions leading up to Meghan’s big day was who would be designing her wedding dress — which the answer was only revealed when she arrived at the church for her wedding ceremony.
