Eugene Chia

Eugene Chia got into tattooing when he realised that he was not made for the office life. While looking for a job that would accept his body art, Eugene reached an epiphany and thought why not venture into tattooing himself? And that’s exactly what he did.

How would you describe your tattoo style?

My personal favorite would be Chinese and Japanese influence oriental style. The elements of fire, wind and waves puts in a movement to the characters. It’s interesting how the philosophy of the mythology could be express through a tattoo.

What do you think is the biggest challenge you face as a tattoo artist?

It’s the same challenge as my childhood I guess. Being a misfit and not fitting in the industry. People wants to put you down and take away your pride. Or worst they want to use you. Ironically tattooing itself hasn’t bothered me much but dealing with people are what I find most challenging.

Do you have a favourite tattoo you’ve done before?

There are no specific favorite tattoo as I’m still learning and trying to improve. All my oriental works are my pride, because it truly defines my style.
