How To Combat Loneliness During The Holiday Season
Oh, the irony of the holidays is that the air could either be really romantic or very lonely. With Christmas around the corner and the New Year looming – you could either be sitting in front of your telly alone in your jammys watching Love Actually or New Years Eve or spending the holidays with someone you love.
For those of you lucky enough to spend the holidays with that romantic someone – hold on to that. And those who suffer from extreme loneliness? Well, we’re here for you.
First of all, it’s okay to be without a significant other during the holidays. It really isn’t all that bad. So instead of staying cooped up in your house, let this be prime time for you:
Spend time with your loved ones
If anything, the holidays are meant for reconnecting with your family and loved ones. We spend the other 365 days of the year busy working and spending time with our friends, it’s easy to neglect the ones that have been there for us. Don’t be afraid to initiate!
Cure your loneliness by making other people around you happy. After all, it’s the season for giving and what better way to show people you care by giving them even the simplest of things.
Volunteer for a cause or an event
Let this be the time for you to finally help out an organization or a cause you truly believe in. Beat that loneliness by helping others who are lonely too and in turn spread happiness! There are more people out there who are less fortunate than you, seek the inspiration and strength within them to find it in yourself too.
Focus your thoughts on what you have
It’s easy to focus on the things that we don’t have – this happens to be the root cause of our loneliness and lack of fulfillment. Try and reshape and train yourself to see the good in everything and to count your blessings this holiday season.
