NBA Legend Kobe Bryant And Daughter GiGi Have Died In A Helicopter Crash

Kobe Bryant, legendary LA Lakers player who was 41, was on a helicopter with his daughter Gianna, 13, when it crashed in Calabasas, California, on Sunday. There were nine people on board the helicopter including the pilot, the identities of whom have yet to be released by the coroner at the time of writing.

Kobe Bryant was a retired NBA star but he was still very much an active family man. It is believed that Kobe and his second-eldest daughter boarded the helicopter for basketball training.

Kobe Bryant was considered one of the best NBA players in history, due to his impressive track record. He had won NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award for 2007-8 season, and Finals M.V.P. in both 2009 and 2010. He played an 81-point game in 2006 that is the second-highest single-game total in N.B.A. history — along with 12 appearances on the league’s All-Defense team.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver addressed the sudden news of Kobe Bryant’s death on Sunday, saying in a statement:

“The NBA family is devastated by the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna.

“For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible when remarkable talent blends with an absolute devotion to winning. He was one of the most extraordinary players in the history of our game with accomplishments that are legendary…But he will be remembered most for inspiring people around the world to pick up a basketball and compete to the very best of their ability. He was generous with the wisdom he acquired and saw it as his mission to share it with future generations of players, taking special delight in passing down his love of the game to Gianna.”
