#TeamCLEO Talks To The Creators Of The Netflix Original Series ‘GLOW’ Liz Flahive And Carly Mensch
If you guys are a Netflix binger like me, you would’ve come across a Netflix Original TV Series called ‘GLOW‘ slide across your screens. With an all female cast featuring the likes of Alison Brie, Kate Nash and Betty Gilpin – GLOW is a show created by Liz Flahvie (Nurse Jackie), Carly Mensch (Weeds) and executive producer Jenji Kohan (Orange Is The New Black) that takes a look at the personal and professional lives of a group of women who perform for a wrestling organization in Los Angeles.
Set in the 1980’s, GLOW has become a show that I have added to my list of sinful binge sessions. With characters of all shapes and sizes in neon spandex with their own story to bring to the table – what is not to love?
I had the pleasure in speaking to the masterminds Liz Flahvie and Carly Mensch on the creation of GLOW and what it’s like to work with a primarily female cast.
How did the two of you come up with the idea of GLOW?
Liz: Carly came across a documentary about the real women of GLOW, looking back on their time making the original show; then she called me up and said I had to watch it. We were both really struck by the fact that we’d never seen that world before. We weren’t wrestling fans and we hadn’t seen the original show – but we were so struck by the way the women were and how transformative it was for them and we took it from there – discussing how we would do our own dream version of this idea.
