5 Reasons To Join a 5KM Run
Marathons — the only ones we really know are Netflix ones, and watching a season (or two) within a few nights. But we’re talking about marathons where you actually run — and it’s often mistaken that runs are reserved for serious runners. You can join a run if you want to without needing to be a professional marathon runner.
If you’ve always wanted to join a marathon or a run but the thought terrifies you (how do people run these amounts? Isn’t 10KM meant for car journeys only? HOW DO PEOPLE DO IT!?) — try a fun run first. And by fun run, it usually means a 5KM run.
Think about it — in a 5KM run (if you’re a newbie, it’ll take you around 45 min to cross that finish line) will give you the same health benefits that running has to offer in general: reduced BMI, balanced cholesterol levels, lowered cancer risk and lowered risks of cardiovascular and gallbladder diseases.
Put down that Twix and let the words from Sara Sabri, a pacer from Adidas Runners Kuala Lumpur (ARKL) convince you why you should join a 5KM marathon!
It’s surprisingly easy to train for
Okay, this is assuming that you’re pretty healthy, but you just never make the time to train or run because you’re too busy doing other things like work or brunching.
Unlike a half-marathon or full-marathon, you don’t need much time to train for a 5KM run — at least a few days or a week will do. It’s also easier because you won’t be getting blisters or chafing like how longer runs would usually cause. There is no need to stock up on energy drinks or fuel since a 5KM run wouldn’t take more than an hour to complete.
