CLEO Hot Bachelors 2018: Effendi Azari
EFFENDI AZARI, 28, BANKER
Need someone to keep you on a proper budget? Banker Effendi Azari is super serious when it comes to his job, but also thinks that the best way to save money is by giving it to your mum. He’s as serious about the environment as he is about his job as Effendi thinks that the world should be rid of plastic – #taknakstraw!
Tell us a little bit about what you do.
I live a pretty balanced life. I have a 9-to-5 job at a Bank where I have to be super serious, but once I’ve broken out of the office, I switch to “Fun Fendi” mode.
A bulletproof way to save some money?
Give it to your mom, there’s no other way. Trust me, once she’s got it, you’ll never be able to get your hands on it.
Printed shirt, H&M; leather jacket, Effendi’s own.
If you could invest in anything you want, what woulD it be and Why?
I would invest in education as it is the guarantee of someone’s future.
If you became a millionaire overnight, what would be your first purchase? Why?
I would buy a hostel by the beach in Boracay as I’d love to share this beautiful slice of paradise with others.
Reading a motivational book over a strong black coffee while waiting for the laundry to finish. After that, rekindle with nature, probably some gardening or a jog in the KLCC park. Finally I’d round the weekend out by grabbing drinks and catching up with my buddies.
– On Effendi’s ideal weekend.
What do you believe makes a successful life? Why?
For me, having the mindset of focusing on and appreciating what we have rather than what we don’t have would help people lead a more successful and fulfilled life
A person who truly understands you would know that you’re a….
What’s the one thing about you that surprises people? Give us an example.
I’m a pretty decent swimmer. I once completed a 13km open ocean swim around the Perhentian Island (read: once).
Where is your happy place? Why?
I always feel happy when I’m at the Heli Lounge Bar in Kuala Lumpur. I love the chilled ambience, and being high above and far from the racket of the city.
What do you like most about first dates? Why?
The awkwardness. I find it cute when the other person is trying hard to be their best self and I’m just chill about it.
The existence of plastic. It does not make sense that we can’t get rid of the things that we invented, and its clogging up our sea as well as harming our marine life.
– The changes Effendi would make to the world.
What is your favourite thing to learn about in your free time? Why?
Right now? Skateboarding. It all started with my nephew wanting to learn how to skateboard, so we went to the mall and I accidentally got one for myself too.
Country side life, beach life, or city life – which one would you pick to live in, and why?
I would be happy to live a beach life as walking on the sand, watching sunset by the beach and waking up to the sound of waves have a calming effect on me.
If you could visit any time period in all of history, what would it be? Why?
The Jurassic Age because I want to know what colour dinosaurs really were.
What are the three things every man needs in his closet? Why?
A plain white shirt. Dark blue jeans. A pair of black converse. I think that look is classic and every guy can pull it off.
Tell us what are the top three things on your bucket list?
Obtaining the Open Water diving license. Start my own garden. Hiking to Everest Base Camp.
