#TeamCLEO Chats To Multi-Instrumentalist And Music Producer, Gryffin!
This long weekend has brought back memories of Good Vibes Festival 2017 for me and just when I thought I had recovered from the festival blues – boom – I haven’t really. The post-festival high has semi-diminished but I’m still expecting someone with a flower crown to walk past me at any time. A weekend filled with unbelievable scenery, company and of course, magical tunes.
Prior to the festival, I had a chat to NYC-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, Dan Griffith AKA Gryffin who has cemented his path to the international spotlight with his melody-rich style of house music that fuses indie with dance in a tasteful fashion. Known for some of the biggest remixes in 2016 with the likes of Tove Lo’s ‘Talking Body‘ , Maroon 5’s ‘Animals‘, Years & Years’ ‘Desire‘ and more.
Although Gryffin has recently been on the cusp of a major breakthrough, he began his musical journey growing up as a classically trained pianist, before expanding his sonic palette with guitar at an early age. He played in bands to initially hone his instrumental abilities, until he dove head first into the world of music production at the University of Southern California.
What has been the biggest challenge for you as a music producer thus far?
Dan: My biggest challenge would be the beginning where I was finding out find my identity of what I wanted my music to sound like and find out what kind of emotions and feelings I wanted to convey as an artist and really kind of figuring out that whole imagination of who I wanted to be as an artist.
That was probably the hardest thing. You know, there are so many artists out there and there’s so much music that you can absorb, its really about trying to find your sound and what can make you stand out from the rest. That’s probably been my biggest challenge.
